Cairns Highlands Accommodation.

About Cairns Highlands,
Welcome to one of the most diversely beautiful and exciting areas in Australia - The Cairns Highlands, more well-known as The Atherton Tablelands. An area containing pristine beaches, untouched rainforests and rich fertile farming lands.
The Cairns Highlands area consists of numerous towns containing well-kept hotel motel accommodation, backpacker accommodation, B&B accommodation and retreat accommodation. Atherton is the main centre. It is located 100km south-east of Cairns and can be reached by road or coach. Many surprises can be found among the rainforests, from spectacular waterfalls, interesting walking tracks and impressive scenery. Kuranda is the first town after leaving Cairns and can be reached by the scenic Kuranda train or by the Skyrail. There are a number of educational places to see here, like the butterfly house and the nocturnal animal house, as well as taking an expedition to the Barron Falls. Spend a night at the available accommodation. Visit the waterfall at Malanda that streams into a swimming pool. This is the home of Malanda Milk and where Millaa Millaa Cheese is made now. Millaa Millaa also has a spectacular waterfall close to town and is part of a circuit where a number of waterfalls can be seen.
Travel the Cairns Highlands scenic route on to Ravenshoe, an old timber and dairy town which is also known as the highest town on the Tablelands. Close by is the Millstream Falls which are known as the widest falls in Australia. There is motel and hotel accommodation as well as camping parks available. Visit Herberton and experience its great tin mining history. While on the Tablelands visit Tolga, near Atherton, to see some of the excellent woodwork carried out by local artisans. To relax spend some time at Tinaroo Dam, do a spot of fishing, walking or have a picnic. Yungaburra also has many galleries and shops of interest and hosts excellent outdoor markets. It is also home to the Curtain Fig Tree, an immense natural structure produced by a strangler fig.
West of Atherton is the mining town of Chillagoe which is now known for its gold and marble mining. Located close by are also some excellent limestone caves. North of Atherton lies the town of Mareeba, mainly known for its agriculture, cattle and for the Annual Rodeo which is held in July. It has excellent hotel motel accommodation, backpacker and B&B style accommodation available, as well as camping parks.
The people are friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed, so plan your next holiday to this part of the world and you won't be disappointed.
Enjoy your stay in the Cairns Highlands.
