The Queensland Orchestras Andrew Bain is excited. As Principal Horn with The Queensland Orchestra, he has a new baby, a $10,000 shiny new Alexander Wagner Tuba.
In fact the orchestra now has four of these famed instruments, purchased as a result of TQOs successful Create New Sounds instrument appeal. All four were played for the first time publicly with the orchestra on Saturday at the Maestro Fritzsch Gala and all four performed perfectly.
The Queensland Orchestras Managing Director Michael P. Smith said donation appeals like Create New Sounds are a vital addition to TQOs corporate partnership programs.
"Could you imagine having to do your job without the right tools? The instruments the artists of The Queensland Orchestra play have enormous impact on their ability to deliver world class performances and its so important we provide them with the right tools," he said.
The Create New Sounds appeal had a wish list including the four Alexander Wagner Tubas, a Style 23 Lyon and Healy Harp and a set of 6 Ludwig Pro-Copper Hammered Timpani. The combined value of these instruments is more than $100,000.
Through the most recent appeal, launched in October 2007, the four Wagner tubas were purchased at a price of some $42,000.
