| Fire up the Barbie! |
FIRING up the barbie has taken new meaning for punters at a Woolloongabba hotel with the introduction of cook-your-own steaks.
Riding on the popularity of the Aussie barbecue and locals seeking a good quality, affordable steak, Hotel Broadway owner John McInerney has put the tongs in public hands.
Mr McInerney - an experienced chef and hotelier of 27 years - said the introduction of cook-your-own steaks had proven popular at the venue.
To meet burgeoning demand on dining Mr McInerney took reign as head chef and will feature on an episode of Channel Seven's Great South East on April 27.
"For only $10 you can choose from rump, sirloin, T-bone or rib fillet, throw it on the barbie and enjoy a drink with mates while you watch it cook," Mr McInerney said.
"The steaks are excellent value for money and there is a very social atmosphere around the barbecue."
The multi-level establishment was built in 1889 and previously served as a hotel and backpacker accommodation.
After taking ownership in November 2006, Mr McInerney - a former owner of Sydney's Forresters Hotel - restored the 19th century precinct and added new features.
"It was the most run-down pub in Brisbane when I purchased it," he said.
"Today it has four bars, alfresco dining, beer garden, function rooms and retro nightclub. It's a beautiful building and only five minutes walk from the Gabba."
Other hotel specials include breakfast from 8am Saturdays, fresh produce markets from 6am Saturdays and tailored function packages.
