| National Beef Expo in Rockhampton |
The central Queensland town of Rockhampton is gearing up for its major festival of the year.
Rocky is the self-appointed beef capital of Australia and this is never more apparent than when the triennial National Beef Expo gears up during from May 1 to May 7.
During this week Rocky celebrates the best of the beef cattle industry and celebrates central Queensland as the tourism destination.
During the festival, there will be cattle sales, live music and plenty of cowboys and girls on show in a range of competitions like bare back riding.
The town still remembers the famous Beef 2000 Expo where Brisbane and Northern Territory restaurateur John Kilroy established a special restaurant at the venue.
It was a replica of his successful Cha Cha Char eatery in Brisbane and contained within a huge white marque, complete with air-conditioning and silver service - not bad considering the outside temperature was about 40 degrees Celsius at the time.
