Not exactly Hamilton Island, but the Kiwi's think it must be the second best job in the world.  The leaseholders of a tiny (400 by 200 metres) ecological island at the top of the North Island and part New Zealand's beautiful Bay of Islands advertised this job globally and received over 150 applicants from places including America, India, Pakistan and Mexico.

Ten applications came from Australia with many of those coming from Queensland but it was a female environmental worker from NSW that scored the job.  Billed as an 'ultimate escape from the global recession'.  With many heartbreaking applications coming through with the yet to named female winner taking the gong.  'Some applications were really sad, heart-breaking really.  It seems there are many people out there who would jump at the chance to escape their life, even when they won't be paid', a spokesperson said.

Instead of six month stint on glorious Hamilton Island the winner of the second best job in the world will spend the New Zealand winter on the small island as the caretaker, living amongst kiwi birds and native bush.
