| The annual Writers Festival |
The Harbour City, that would be Sydney, is counting down for one of the tourism highlights of the year - the annual Writer's Festival.
The festival is a mix of more than 30 free and ticketed events comprising workshops, seminars and panels involving a host of writers and industry representatives which runs from Thursday 22 May at the Sydney Philharmonia Choir Studio at Pier 4/5.
Seminar and panel topics include insights into the publishing process, including market overviews; practical tips on how to maximise your chance of getting publishing in both the children and adult market; managing the business side of writing careers including the legal complexities facing authors; the role of an agent; developments in digital publishing and the risk of the fake memoirist, and many more.
Practical workshops range from genre workshops including crime writing, travel writing and memoir, as well as practical workshops on improving writing practice and tapping creativity.
International guests include David Davidar of Penguin Canada, a highly successful publisher and novelist in his own right, and Will Atkinson of Faber UK. They join Australian publishers and agents from across the local industry, to provide an insider's guide to the publishing world.
