Melbourne is abuzz with the latest production of the opera Carmen and a number of tourists flocking to the city to see the new production.

The explosive new production is directed by Francesca Zambello, conducted by Richard Hickox and introduces Pamela Helen Stephen in the title role as Carmen.

This provocative new production goes in search of a real, raw Spain which dances to Bizets seductive and unforgettable score.

Pamela Helen Stephen leads a powerful cast including Rosario La Spina as Don Josaacé, Hye Seoung Kwon as his childhood sweetheart Micaadiëla and Joshua Bloom as the charismatic toreador Escamillo.

Performed in French with subtitles. Running time: two hours and fifty minutes including one twenty-minute interval.
